Youbet.net
Now here's an idea that leaves you sctratching you head, wondering why 100 other companies haven't done it yet. Youbet.com is going to launch a Youbet.net web site. The site will be to horse racing what the free poker sites are to Texas Hold 'Em. Amateur handicappers will be able to play for points and get tutorials on how to play the game. It's a risk-free way to get involved and learn a little before you put your money on the line. Great idea. Good luck to them. I think it's a great way to get new blood in the door. Let the governments screw around with their failed attempts at VLTs, rebate programs and "reform". Creative private companies will lead the way to new revenue streams and the betterment of the sport.

Thanks for the heads up Alan. Unfortunately, those of us on Mac's can't use this, youbet.com, or any other horse racing sites. They only support PC use.
Nice idea from Youbet. Boo on the anti-mac stuff however, when will the world realize that Windows sucks and Mac Operating systems are million times easier. Maybe that should be another thread/blogg discussion.
Bloody 'ell...it's about time. I think, even though there is a steeper learning curve becoming a handicapper than playing poker, this is exactly the kind of thing that will help bring new blood to the sport.
We know how much fun it is, and sometimes I feel like, if every horseplayer could just have two or three days at the track with one or two prospective fans that have any inkling of interest, this sport would be the most popular in the nation once again.
