Martin Garcia
Martin Garcia, The number 2 ranked jockey in America is getting ready to tear it up at Hollywood Park. The 21 year old apprentice will have six mounts on Friday (Opening Day), and at least that many on Saturday and Sunday. He even picked up the mount on Secret Ridge in the $100,000 Los Angeles Handicap (GIII) on Saturday.
Garcia came to the United Sates three years ago, never seeing a horse race. When he arrived, he was looking for work, any work. He started working at a deli, and met some people who introduced him to horse racing. Now three years later, and six months into his career as a jock, his is on top of the world.
This is a another great jockey to keep your eyes on.....If you haven't been watching already.

It's really been great to be able to see him first hand so much in NorCal. I agree, he's got a great future.
Mr Baloo,
May I ask when you are going to feature the #1 jockey(and bug boy) in the country. Monsieur Leparoux?
John - may I direct your attention to Baloo's post of May 1, 2006 with a fine photo of Mr. Laparoux flying after being thrown from his mount. Not exactly what you meant, but he did do a post for Julien.
Unfortunately, a daughter of our favorite sire Malibu Moon, Malibu Mint, also threw J.L. on Derby day. Luckily he was OK.
Now back to our favorite jockey and bug(girl), Rosie. 5 wins and a second at Pimlico today. She is blowing away the rest of the colony at Pimlico and now is tied for 4th leading jock in the nation.
