Stephen Quick and Christopher Feifarek’s Silmaril defended her title in the $80,000 What A Summer Stakes Jan. 12 at Laurel Park, carrying her over the $1-million mark in lifetime earnings. The win was her 12th stakes victory, and her next assignment will be a date in breeding shed.

Hey, Bug Boys
I hope you were out at the races to enjoy Silmaril's farewell. It was good to see a ring of admiring fans around the winner's circle. So well-deserved. Maryland racing is desperate for that sort of thing. Where will it come from next? -- J.S.
Any idea who she will be bred to?
They have not yet said who she will be bred to, but I would think it is going to be a real name. Unfortunately, I doubt it will be a Maryland based stallion.
Was nice to see this girl go out a champ. Would have been even better to see her go out a graded winner in next months Barbara Fitchie, but she looked well Saturday.
