Should we slaughter horses for food?

I came across this article as a link to a completely unrelated story. I have not done any additional homework about this issue, but I wanted to share it with other horse fans. I would say that I am completely against the slaughter of horses, but this article definitely makes you think, a least a little bit.

Yes, it makes you think. It makes you think how people can fall for this pro slaughter propaganda. It makes you think how in a matter of two short weeks since the kill houses shut down that all of a sudden there are thousands of horses wandering the streets. It makes you think how they don't have the stomach to shoot their horse but have the stomach to send them to a horrific death or let them starve to death. It makes you wonder if the AQHA is behind this because they are notorious for over breeding. It makes you think how someone can take on the responsibility of owning a horse but not be responsible to provide a humane death. The pro slaughter groups are running scared and their only hope is scare people without any facts to back them up. They also never address the fact that anywhere from 40 to 50% of the horses sent to slaughter are stolen. Everyone is wise to their scare tactics and are resolve in their efforts to make 2007 the year that this horrific, barbaric industry is shut down.
