Ginger Punch and Scottish Monk

One of the nice things about living near Belmont Park is being able to run over there when a champion comes to town. Today was the Ogden Phipps Handicap and Ginger Punch came in to take the money. That, plus two Malibu Moon fillies in the race, was good enough to get me there to catch the 7th, 8th and 9th races. I took a few photos:

The prior race was the Scottish Monk Stakes where Tam Lin upset Cosmonaut by a nose. You can barely see Cosmonaut behind the winner in this photo, but it was a great finish.

With a little research, I found out that Tam Lin is the hero of a Scottish legend. How appropriate that he won the Scottish Monk Stakes! In my quick search, I could not find much about Scottish Monk other than he raced 81 times and won 28 races. Does anyone have any info on this horse? He was foaled in 1983.

What Ernie said. I love this stuff.

Also love the prospect of digging a little into Scottish Monk the horse, which I'll do when I get home tonight. Thanks for the research project. =)

I'm a folklore geek, so that's part of why I picked Tam Lin to win (and had the tri) - but alas, couldn't get anywhere to bet...
