Well, summer is better, but as Jessica says, winter is good, too. Go to the Racing Museum; check out the Saratoga Room in the public library; and by all means go to the racing section at Lyrical Ballad book shop!
My dad always went up during the offseason. No lines, get into your favorite restaurants any time, things get cheaper.
Worth the trip, as Teresa says, just to visit the Hall of Fame.Although more than the library or book shop, I'd suggest a pub or two, including the Tin & Lint Company...
