ESPN's coverage of the 2009 Belmont Stakes has won the Eclipse Award for National Television - Live Racing. I feel like part of the winning team, as I was highlighted for this brief moment in the paddock before the race. That's me using my program to keep the sun out of my eyes.
I'd like to thank the voters, and the guy on Stub Hub that sold me a really good seat for very little money.
Speaking of Eclipse Awards, here are a few of my choices:
HOTY- Rachel Alexandra: East coast bias notwithstanding, Rachel had a monumental and historic year. Zenyatta had a monumental and historic race. Z had a great career (to be continued). Rachel had a better season.
Older Male- Gio Ponti: 4 Grade 1 wins and a second to Zenyatta in the Breeder's Cup Classic. Nice campaign in a year where there was no standout older router.
Female Turf- Ventura: A length and a half away from 6 Grade 1 wins at 5 different tracks, against males twice. This is also a "stand-against" horses coming to the U.S. for the Breeder's Cup and winning an award for a campaign. Goldikova's performance was remarkable, but to me, it does not make her the champion here.
Three-Year-Old Filly- Flashing: Nah, not really. Just seeing if you are still reading this.

You were SO on your game
You own the Eclipse for that shot. And I was still reading through the Flashing pick...LOL. Good stuff Alan.
Well said - nothing could be more accurate. "Rachel had a monumental and historic year. Zenyatta had a monumental and historic race."
AMEN!
Nice shot and nice call on Rachel
